Area Police
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior official said the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
